Greenup County Kentucky is proud to be the only county in the United States that has two Congressional Medal of Honor recipients from the same war. Ernie West and the late John Collier, who's medal was awarded posthumously, are the brave men who give Greenup County that distinction. Mr. Collier and Mr. West received their medals of honor for their valiant service during the Korean War. Greenup County has a proud history of heroic military action and when driving on US 23, be sure to look for the signs that let you know you are in a very special place. "Collier-West Memorial Highway" signs are there to pay homage to our two Medal of Honor recipients.
